Frequently asked questions
Yes, we designed our cutting boards to be safe when using with all types of food. With safety in mind, we use a thick food-grade paperboard to manufacture the cutting boards that we then coat with both a cut-resistant and liquid-resistant barrier.
Technically, the outer dimensions of a single Dixie Ultra® Cutting Board are 10” x 13”. As far as the actual cutting area goes, we designed our boards to give you a generous 8.75” x 12.25” total surface area for prepping your largest meats and veggies.
Unlike permanent cutting boards that need to be carefully sanitized after every use, Dixie Ultra® Cutting Boards offer a clean, fresh surface every time you prep a meal. This way, you can avoid the potential for cross contamination when cutting raw meats and other ingredients on the same permanent board you would normally use for everything. Even better, tossing your disposable board into the trash when you’re finished makes for quick and easy clean up.
Cross-contamination is what happens when you cut or prep an ingredient that could have harmful bacteria on it (such as raw poultry or fish) on a permanent surface and then cut or prep another ingredient on that same surface. The ability to simply toss one of our disposable cutting boards when you’re finished using it and then selecting a new cutting board to prep a different ingredient can help prevent a cross-contamination scenario.
Absolutely. Of course, if you push too hard with any sharp knife, you could puncture through the surface—just like you could when cutting on a wood or plastic surface if you press too hard. So while our durable boards are made to be cut-resistant, we advise you to avoid bearing down on the surface when cutting tougher meats and veggies to avoid cutting through them.
One of the best things about our cutting boards is the combination of thick paperboard and the Soak Proof Shield® we make them with to prevent liquids from seeping through. They’re also designed with a raised rim around the edge to keep liquids and juices from running over and off the boards.
While all Dixie® disposables are designed to be recyclable, you’ll want to make sure your recycling program accepts food-contaminated paper and plastic waste.
