Swedish Yellow Split Pea Soup with Ham Recipe

INGREDIENTS

3 cups yellow split peas (about 1 ½ lb)
4 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
4 cups water
1 cup carrots, diced
1 cup celery, finely diced
8 oz ham, trimmed and diced
1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
1 tsp marjoram, dried
Freshly ground pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS

Prep: 10min | Cook: 5hr | Ready in: 5hr 10min

Step 1

Place the split peas in a medium bowl. Wash with cold water until the water runs clear; drain and spread in a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker.

Step 2

Add broth, water, onion, carrots, celery, ham, ginger and marjoram to the slow cooker; stir to combine.

Step 3

Cover and cook for 5 hours on high or 7 to 8 hours on low. Season with pepper.

Make-Ahead Tip:

Prep the carrots, celery and ginger and dice the ham; refrigerate in separate containers
